 The Overton Window  

    The Overton theory is a political theory developed by Joseph Overton. He describes policies and values and how they were once unacceptable and now accepted. It has shown social progress and how its impacted society today. It has promoted Democratic Engagement which empowered communities to influence policies in democratic systems. The Overton window is crucial in understanding the dynamics of government and political policies. It empowers citizens to voice their opinions and stay connected to society. As society changes , the Overton window remains essential in shaping democracy.

    I thought this presentation on the Overton Window was very interesting. I like his examples because they are very true in everyday life. Some ideas of racial inequality to societal change.  Examples range from Same sex marriage which was unthinkable at one time but now considered acceptable. The theory has significant implications. 

    People in our country are responsible through voting and communicating with representatives. On the negative side, shifts in the Overton Window must be handled carefully, as extreme shifts can lead to political polarization, reducing the ability to reach consensus and solve problems. On the bad side, though, the Overton window must be handled carefully because a shift can lead to political polarization, which means we reduce our ability to come together to solve problems. 

The Overton window was a very important idea in politics. It influenced a lot of laws that got made and what ideas people thought morally right at the time as well
