Blog Post #4: The first Smartphone

The first smartphone released was the iPhone, released on June 29th, 2007. With the release of the iPhone, it made history as the first ever revolutionary product of its time. It blended the mobile phone, iPod, and Internet communication into a single device. The introduction of the iPhone reshaped how technology was thought about and even used. With the invention of the iPhone, it changed how we perceived technology, how we take in information and changed our everyday ways of life.

With the first ever Apple iPhone releasing on June 29th, 2007, it made history. Looking back to the development of the first ever iPhone. It was introduced by Steve Jobs as a device that combined an iPod, phone, and internet communication all in one. He presented the idea in 2007 at a conference in San Francisco called Macworld. When Jobs introduced the idea it sent shock waves throughout the technology world and people all over wanted a device for themselves. When the iPhone was set to release, it introduced several new features that became revolutionary to the smartphones we have today.

When the first ever Apple iPhone hit the market, it was exclusively on AT&T at the time. It was only released in the United States and had a starting price of $499 for the four GB model and $599 for the 8 GB model. When the iPhone was first released it was super hard to get your hands on and it was very exclusive. Apple sold over 6 million iPhones in the first year of its production. With the release of the iPhone, Steve Jobs said “it was 10 years ahead of its time”.

The iPhone introduced several new features that changed the technology industry. It revitalized the mobile phone industry, changing how people do everything. One of the first features of the iPhone I will start talking about is the multi touch display. It was the first ever time a mobile phone had a touch screen with pixels in it. Apple also designed an operating system(iPhoneOS) specifically for iPhones. It was similar to the Mac OS, Apple's desktop, but the first phone came preinstalled with several key apps and allowed for so much more access to a variety of sorts.

The first ever iPhone also introduced the concept of calling on the go and voicemail. Voicemail at the time was something that you had to scroll through and be able to find the one you were looking for. Apple allowed users to view each voicemail directly and select them individually at their choice. It also allowed you to text anyone on the go and created a new level of convenience to receive people's messages. There was also the introduction of Safari, Apples first full-time internet browser. This allowed you to find any type of content just with the tap of your finger. With the last major integration for the iPhone, it was building upon the iPod. The first iPhone allowed you to play music whenever and wherever carrying the music in your pocket, just minimizing the iPod to an app.

The first iPhone was a revolutionary product of its time and reshaped the smartphone industry as a whole. Steve Jobs vision on technology really changed how we communicate and consume information daily. The First iPhone will never be forgotten about and marks a day in history where technology changed forever.
