Blog Post #1: My top 5 Sources

The Virginia Gazette :

I am from Williamsburg, Virginia and the Virginia Gazette is the main news source my family and I use. My mom still gets the magazines, and the local newspapers dropped off at our doorstep, while I see most of the Virginia Gazette’s news online in today's modern age. This local news source provides a lot of coverage about the Revolutionary Times and local news that updates us about current events that happen in Williamsburg. It also has advertisements for smaller companies and the locals. As well as it gives a lot of things to do like suggest where to go or where to eat in our town. A lot of the suggestions I see are things like Busch Gardens, Water Country or even things like Rec sports, which are super cool places to check out in the area. 

Apple news :

Apple News is another news source that I use daily. If you have an Apple product like myself, it pops up on the iPhone or whatever Apple device you are using at the time. It updates you on the latest news, your local news, and even the news that deal with cities in the neighboring areas. The app will also send out daily notifications updating you on what's happening in the world that same day. Even if I am too busy throughout the day to check up on the news, I always have my phone handy, so it makes it easy to get caught up on the news I've missed.  

Spotify :

Even though Spotify is not your main news platform, I still use it for a lot of information. Spotify is mainly a streaming app, but also has things like Podcasts helping spread information. Being a sports media student, it helps get me caught up on current events and trades that happen throughout the sports world. It also gives people's opinions on everyday topics and even current world events. This allows me to gain new insight of information and might even change my perspective on different stories. 

TikTok :

TikTok is a new social media platform that has skyrocketed in the last few years. I know I am on TikTok more than all my other apps in general. TikTok is not just about dancing videos, but it updates you on the latest news, current events, and even people's viewpoints. There has been a lot of big news sources that have created accounts on TikTok so they can update even their younger demographic. I would say it is mostly applies to younger kids and teenagers that use TikTok, but you can definitely find all different demographics on there as well. I will say using TikTok as a news app though, you must ensure the source is reliable, and you might even have to fact check it because there are a lot of opinion-based statements on the app. 

Instagram :

I can say Instagram is an app that I use daily. It helps me gauge information on several types of subjects, such as the political world, sports News or even events like wars in other countries. It helps update us on current events that are happening all around us, it also gives updates on trades or who could even be winning in a poll. The one thing I find unique about Instagram's features is that it allows you to comment and type whatever you want, and other users are allowed to respond freely to what you think of a certain subject. This creates interesting viewpoints for people to share their opinions and may even change someone else's.
