Ted Talks - How to protect our Privacy
“With the Internet growing so vastly nowadays, how do we really protect our own information?” Our friends and family should be able to use the internet freely without having someone or something monitor what we are doing on our browsers. Today I will be talking about how we can protect ourselves and our privacy from this technology.
We use technology heavily throughout everyday life. These issues do not just affect me, they affect my family and my friends around me. All our personal information and everything we have ever done on the internet has been picked up by the devices we use. We must mute things like the microphones on our devices because they pick up on these conversations around us. The government likes to Snoop in people's privacy and especially to protect other people. Privacy has become outdated, and we must find a better way of prioritizing it for ourselves.
One thing that stuck out to me that the government could do better on is how they are there to serve people. Police Look at the license plate readers to see if you have a warrant or if you are in any type of legal trouble. They use these to pull people over and arrest them. The police force is there to protect us. Laws should protect citizens and the government should not be snooping through our privacy. They could be using things like speed guns and radar detectors to stop this current issue, because they are their stop people from speeding not to be in a civilian's privacy.
One idea could be turning off your location indefinitely so people cannot see where you are, it protects your privacy as well if you were to be somewhere important per se. Another idea could be putting a piece of tape over your computer camera because it can see everything that you are doing. Even when you are not on your computer, it can still see what is happening. Another idea is to turn off the microphones on our computers and phones so it does not pick up on your daily conversations and per say if you said anything incriminating.
In conclusion, we must keep our personal information and online privacy very seriously, because in today's day and age it is getting leaked to everyone and everywhere. While technology has so many benefits, it also has its cons. Even though we are still going to use the internet, it is very important to look at how we use the internet and create a safer, more private online experience.
