Blog Post #6: EOTO Technology presentations - Radio

The discovery of radio

I found the invention of the radio very interesting. It was the first way we were able to communicate and broadcast things across different radio waves. It really makes you think back to even before radios, how did we communicated through wars and how easy it is in today's age that we take this communication for granted.
When looking at the radio I thought it had been around for much longer. Yes, there are things like the Telegraph that have been around for 100 years or so, but I was thinking radio waves have been around for quite a while. When I found out the first radio wave was sent out in 1985, that really shocked me. It really makes you think how we communicated before this in time and how we communicated with family across the country, through wars, and even receive voice messages on one end. Up to this point, no one had heard a voice message across a radio channel and that was only 40 years ago, really putting it into perspective that some of our parents might be older than the radio.

Radio was the real first way to communicate with people in a timely manner. Could just click a button and shoot a radio call over, made it as easy as that. It is crazy how much communication has grown since then, but when we really look at it, that was just the beginning of companies hosting Broadcasts and even air public events.

This was huge back in the day, because even people like the president would go out and send public messages out into the public through these radio waves so people could hear from their radios at home. Overall, the invention of radio helped anyone that needed to communicate with others, with something as simple as a radio wave. This helped communication grow drastically by letting people communicate from great distances and has changed how we communicate in our everyday lives.
